How it all started ...
The idea for Redwood Road Runners came about in 2014 when Shawn Cochrane and Roy Taylor were distance coaches for the Castro Valley Track Club, a USATF youth club. One afternoon during a cross country practice at Canyon Middle School, with the kids being kids, Roy mentioned that he could use more adult conversation. Shawn agreed and proposed they start a USATF masters club. Later that night, Roy created a Strava group and called it the Chabot Harriers... Ten years later, the club Roy and Shawn forgot about had about 50 followers. One of the members posted that they were looking for someone in Castro Valley to run with in the early mornings. That post was the spark that rekindled the fire - and with their kids now mostly grown, Shawn and Roy changed the name to Redwood Road Runners and registered with USATF. Shawn and Roy are committed to building a club for the athletes and for Castro Valley. An inclusive community for every runner, regardless of age or pace.
We're committed to building the best USATF club in Alameda County and a club that Castro Valley can be proud of... Our Town. Our Team.
